Luxurious Villa in Takaungu, Kilifi
A Tranquil Heaven by the Sea
Our personal review (visited 2011)
This luxurious villa is situated on a picturesque little spot by the Creek with tropical gardens and breathtaking views of the Indian Ocean.
The property is situated on a low coral cliff, at the convergence of Takaungu Creek and the Indian Ocean, a good hour drive from Mombasa town and Moi International Airport.
Driving through the private security gate, a gravel road leads us up to the villa with its large solid wooden “Swahili” double doors welcoming us in a home that provides total tropical extravagance and stunning beauty; the perfect equation for a memorable vacation on the Kenyan coast.
The whole house has been warmly decorated with elegance using local hand crafted furniture from coral, dhow and driftwood.
The owners have designed and built this luxury villa facing east for you to enjoy breathtaking sunrises from nearly every room and the African red sunsets can be viewed from the rooftop of the villa.
The ground floor boasts a grand entrance that leads into the following large, well-decorated rooms:
Dining room: Well-furnished wooden dining table that comfortably seats 8
Guests’ bathroom: Toilet and washbasin using local wood and stone
Very large, elegant and well equipped kitchen: The kitchen is very large and fully equipped with all necessary glasses, cutlery, crockery and china.
Guest Room: A guest room with 2 single beds (easy access to open air pool shower and guest's bathroom mentioned above).
The grand entrance hall leads into a spacious patio and outdoor swimming pool.
The patio is furnished with a unique cut peace of timber that has been transformed into a dining table that comfortable sits 10 people.
The 20 meter long fresh-water swimming pool is approximately 2.5 m deep throughout except for a shallow 1 m wide ledge that runs the length of the pool close to the villa. For safety, anybody using the pool should be able to swim well and unassisted. The pool is only exposed to the morning sun, so guests may enjoy afternoon swimming without risk of sunburn - the pool temperature remains a very comfortable 26 - 28° C throughout the year. For those who wish to sunbathe in the afternoons, there is a sun deck by the side of the pool.
A feature of the grand entrance hall is the pond with lilies and stunning fresh water fish. A flight of wide stairs leads to the “village square” on the 1st floor but does not have any hand rails, making this wonderful house not safe for young children or people that need a rail for support.
The 1st floor has 4 very large, well furnished and extremely comfortable en-suite bedrooms with breathtaking views of the Indian Ocean, the creek and African tropical gardens and fauna.
Every bedroom has a uniquely designed large bed with mosquito nets.
The master bedroom has a staircase to a private roof with star-bath.
